BDS Supervising Immigration Attorney Andrea Sáenz speaks out at a rally co-organized by the Legal Aid Society of New York calling for enactment of a law passed by the Legislature that would end the arrests of working New Yorkers for possession of utility knives they need for their jobs. The reality is that our clients suffer the serious and lasting harm of so-called gravity knife arrests before we even meet them. We fight like hell in court, but they can still lose their jobs, homes, and children, and – now more than ever – be deported for simple possession of a utility knife they’re required to carry for work. Working New Yorkers of color are particularly likely to be arrested. Many are detained on bail at Rikers Island, the horrors of which are well-documented. Governor Cuomo can finally end this injustice by signing legislation to affirm that manual labor is not a crime. Moreover, he can take a stand for immigrant New Yorkers by protecting them from the damning label of ‘criminal alien’ — and that is what this rally was calling for. Video Rating: / 5

The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose, which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives.
Type 1 diabetes signs and symptoms can come on quickly and may include:
Bed wetting in children who previously didn’t wet the bed during the night;
Extreme hunger;Unintended weight loss;
Irritability and other mood changes;
Fatigue and weakness;
In females, a vaginal yeast infection. JDRF is the world’s leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research and raise money to drive world class research. We aim to find new ways to treat type 1 diabetes and its complications, prevent type 1 from developing and find the cure for people who already have the condition. JDRF’s research mission is to discover, develop, and deliver advances that cure, better treat, and prevent T1D. As the global leader in the fight against T1D, JDRF’s research programs are comprehensive – addressing the hopes and dreams of every person with T1D for the best quality of life and a cure for this disease. Millions of people around the world live with type 1 diabetes (T1D), a life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults. There is no way to prevent it, and at present, no cure. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign has settled a legal dispute with former aide Sam Nunberg, according to a court document filed in New York on Thursday. Trump had sought million in damages from Nunberg in arbitration proceedings. Trump accused Nunberg, who was fired in 2015, of violating a confidentiality agreement. Nunberg’s attorney, Andrew Miltenberg, said “the matter was amicably resolved” but he declined to comment further. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Nunberg said in court filings in July that Trump accused him of being the source for a New York Post story in May that recounted a public argument between Corey Lewandowski, who was then the campaign manager, and Hope Hicks, Trump’s spokeswoman.

Most students are unaware that any conviction for the sale or possession of illegal drugs leads to some harsh collateral consequences.
President Clinton originally signed the legislation that amended Higher Education Act (H.R. 6) which mandated that “A student who has been convicted of any offense under any Federal or State law involving the possession or sale of a controlled substance shall not be eligible to receive any federal grant, loan, or work study program.” This was amended in 2006 to block eligibility for Federal financial aid only when the offense occurred during the period of time when the student was receiving aid.
The controlling law is 20 U.S.C. section 1091 (r) (1) which suspends eligibility for any federal grant, federal loan, or federal work study financial assistance for students convicted of any offense under State or Federal law involving the possession or the sale of a controlled substance.

Originally, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. My father was a NYS corrections officer, and my mother a waitress. I now live in Ithaca, NY with my wife (of 25 years), and four kids. I have a B.S. in Human Biology, Doctorates in Law and Chiropractic, and a Post Graduate in Acupuncture. I practiced as a Chiropractic Physician in Florida from 1986 to 1995. I graduated law school in 1997, and went on to practice trial law in FL, NY, NJ, and PA. I love practicing criminal defense and injury law within the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.
Over 90% of the cases that I take on are New York DWI defense cases. I am certified as a breath tester by the Department of Transportation, the guidelines of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). I am certified in Field Sobriety Tests, and an active member of the National College of DUI Defense (NCDD). My online materials include over 450 blog posts, dozens of articles, and over 435 informative videos on my youtube channel.
I have co-authored Strategies for Defending DWI Cases in New York, in both 2011 and 2013. These are West Thomson legal manuals on New York State DWI defense, and focus on the best practices for other lawyers handling a New York DWI case. Included in Strategies for Defending DWI Cases in New York are materials I provide clients, such as my fee agreement and ways to avoid misdemeanor probation. I was selected by Super Lawyers as a Upstate New York 2013 Rising Star in DWI/DUI Defense based on my experience, contributions, and professional standing.
My report from Friday’s demonstration in which legal aid lawyers, withdrawing their labour from the first time on criminal cases, demonstrated against the cuts proposed by Justice Secretary Chris Grayling. Please note that Gary McKinnon’s mother is Janis Sharp, not Janice McKinnon (as captioned).
I am often asked, what is the difference between hiring you or just using a public defender/legal aid for my DWI case?
First, New York DWI refusal cases are not always cut-and-dry. They are either a defense lawyer’s dream or nightmare depending upon their level of preparation. This video explores the three key reasons (differences) you may choose to hire a private attorney for your DWI refusal case. Remember the government must provide you with competent legal counsel but maybe not the best or most experienced legal counsel.

I am a member of the NCDD (National College of DUI Defense), and a co-author of Strategies for Defending DWI Cases in New York, 2011 ed.: Leading Lawyers on Understanding Today’s DWI Environment, Constructing a Defense Strategy, and Counseling Clients (Inside the Minds) New Edition
It’s important in the defense of any DWI refusal case to look at all government’s evidence against you, and ways to challenge that evidence. The primary evidence in a refusal case is the opinion of the police officer.

New York City, in the U.S. state of New York, is composed of five boroughs and almost eight and one half million people. The boroughs are Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Each borough also has coterminous boundaries as a county of New York State. This New York City borough is geographically smallest and most densely populated borough and is home to Central Park and most of the city’s skyscrapers. Manhattan’s (New York County’s) population density of 72,033 people per square mile (27,812/km) in 2015 makes it the highest of any county is the USA. Manhattan is the cultural, administrative, and financial center of NYC. JDRF works towards a day when there is no more type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Diabetes – is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. When you eat your body breaks food down into glucose and sends it into the blood. Insulin then helps move the glucose from the blood into your cells. When glucose enters your cells, it is either used as fuel for energy right away or stored for later use. In a person with diabetes, there is a problem with insulin. But, not everyone with diabetes has the same problem. There are different types of diabetes – type 1, type 2, and a condition called gestational diabetes, which happens during pregnancy. If you have diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin, it can’t use the insulin it does make very well, or both. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) kills the body’s beta cells that produce insulin which gives us the energy we need for everyday life. JDRF’s vision, the Beta Cell Restoration Program, will not only stop the autoimmune attack but also return the number of beta cells to a normal level. JDRF is developing vaccines that will re-train the immune system to eliminate autoimmunity and leave the beta cells alone.
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) can occur in anyone—not just kids. If you or an adult you know has recently been diagnosed with T1D, check out the JDRF T1D Care Kit, a free resource containing information and tools to educate, support and inspire newly diagnosed adults. – Feeling very hungry – even though you are eating;
– Extreme fatigue;
– Blurry vision;
– Cuts/bruises that are slow to heal;
– Weight loss – even though you are eating more (type 1);

JDRF prioritizes its funding for type 1 diabetes research in four interrelated therapeutic areas: autoimmune therapies, β-cell therapies, prevention of complications, and glucose control. Each therapeutic area encompasses a diverse portfolio of research programs that span from exploratory to preclinical proof-of-principle and on to clinical proof-of-concept research. The organization’s overarching strategy focuses on addressing critical gaps and challenges, catalyzing innovative and transformational research, advancing and translating research, creating collaborations, and accelerating time lines at all stages of research development. To facilitate downstream partnering and follow-on funding, JDRF increasingly supports product development by “de-risking” projects, thereby decreasing the barriers of entry for future funders.
