Awardees are selected from those who have excelled in one or more of the following ways: demonstrated dedication to the development and delivery of legal services to the poor through a pro bono program; contributed significant work toward developing innovative approaches to delivery of volunteer legal services; participated in an activity that resulted in satisfying previously unmet needs or in extending services to underserved segments of the population; successfully litigated pro bono cases that favorably affected the provision of other services to the poor; and successfully achieved legislation that contributed substantially to legal services to the poor.
Courtney A. Wachal, an assistant prosecuting attorney with the City of Kansas City; Lindsay J. Runnels, an associate counsel at Morgan Pilate, LLC in Kansas City; and the Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City, an organization formed in 1976 to advance the role of women in the legal profession; were presented the award at The Missouri Bar Foundation & Public Service Awards Luncheon at the 133rd Annual Meeting of The Missouri Bar held on Sept. 10, 2014 in Kansas City, MO. In this interview, they discuss their work, what receiving the award means to them and advice to others. Video Rating: / 5
