In this week’s “Ask the Attorney” segment on WSFA’s “Alabama Live!” program, Beasley Allen attorney Gibson Vance answers questions from six callers concerning legal issues. The first caller asks Gibson about her rights following the recall of her Ford vehicle. Gibson advises the caller to visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, nhtsa.gov, to stay up to date on possible recalls. The second caller, a woman from Prattville, asks Gibson about how to set up her will to exclude someone. Gibson tells her to state her intentions specifically in the will to avoid confusion and disagreements among family members. The third caller also asks Gibson about wills, wondering where to get a will done for free. Gibson directs the caller to the Alabama State Bar, Alabama Legal Services or Montgomery Bar Association, reminding viewers of the importance of wills. The show’s fourth caller asks about holding finance companies accountable in making payments to finance and refinance a home. In response, Gibson directs the caller to ask the current finance company to straighten it out, show details of the account, and document every conversation in order to be prepared for court if necessary. The fifth caller asks about social security benefits, and Gibson directs her to call the social security office for more information. Finally, a caller from Dadeville asks Gibson about how to obtain free legal advice in a verbally abusive relationship with no financial independence. Gibson refers the caller to the Montgomery County Bar Association for free legal aid.
