Here’s A News Report We’d Be Reading If Walter Scott’s Killing Wasn’t On Video
(Huffington Post) A North Charleston police officer was forced to use his service weapon Saturday during a scuffle with a suspect who tried to overpower him and seize the officer’s Taser, authorities said.

The man, who has a history of violence and a long arrest record, died on the scene as a result of the encounter, despite officers performing CPR and delivering first aid, according to police reports
The shooting was the 11th this year by a South Carolina police officer. The State Law Enforcement Division has begun an investigation into the incident.

Police identified the officer involved as Patrolman 1st Class Michael Thomas Slager and the suspect as Walter Lamar Scott, 50, of Meadowlawn Drive in West Ashley. Slager, 33, served honorably in the military before joining the North Charleston Police Department more than five years ago. He has never been disciplined during his time on the force, his attorney said.

The incident occurred behind a pawn shop on Craig Street and Remount Road. Slager initially pulled Scott over for a broken taillight. During the stop, police and witnesses say Scott fled the vehicle on foot. When Slager caught up with him a short distance from the street, Scott reportedly attempted to overpower Slager. Police say that during the struggle, the man gained control of the Taser and attempted to use it against the officer.

It was during that scuffle that the officer fired his service weapon, fatally wounding Scott.

“Shots fired, and the subject is down. He took my Taser,” Slager radioed immediately following the shooting.

Slager “felt threatened and reached for his department-issued firearm and fired his weapon,” his attorney said in a statement on Sunday. “I believe once the community hears all the facts of this shooting, they’ll have a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding this investigation.”

Saturday’s encounter bears similarities to the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, which kicked off a national conversation about the use of force by police. Authorities there ultimately determined that Brown had attempted to overpower Officer Darren Wilson and run before turning back and charging the officer, who was forced to deploy his service weapon in the encounter.

Slager was placed on administrative duty, pending the outcome of the state investigation.

The USDA did a series of Spanish radio ads aimed at getting immigrants on Food Stamps.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has been running radio ads for the past four months encouraging those eligible to enroll. The campaign is targeted at the elderly, working poor, the unemployed and Hispanics.

The department is spending between .5 million and million on paid spots, and free public service announcements are also airing. The campaign can be heard in California, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, and the New York metro area.

“Research has shown that many people — particularly underserved seniors, working poor, and legal immigrants — do not understand the requirements of the program,” said Kevin Concannon, a USDA under secretary.

The radio ads, which run through June 30, come amid a bitter partisan fight over the safety net program. Republican lawmakers want to reduce funding for the benefit or turn it into a block grant program, which would also minimize the cost. Democrats, however, are not willing to make major cuts.

Andy Arnold - Bonus & Commissions

It seems like common sense that employers should pay their employees what they promise them. Well, common sense does not always prevail, and especially in hard economic times, employers break their promises. And, more and more, I am seeing people who earned a bonus or a commission simply not getting paid. So, what you do you? There are some things you should know–which should inform your actions

First, you should know the law: South Carolina Code section 41-10-10 define wages to include bonuses and commissions. The term wages also includes vacation and sick pay. And, section 41-10-30 provides that employees should be notified in writing at the time of hiring of the terms and conditions of employment; it also provides than an employer must give you 7 days written notice of any reduction in pay. Section 41-10-40(d) states you must be paid at the time and place designated, and section 41-10-50 provides that when an employee is terminated, the employer must pay all wages due by the next regularly paid paycheck or within 48 hours. (See Departure Policies: What Happens if You Are Fired Before Your Bonus/Commissions Are Paid.)

So, what do you do to protect yourself? First, make sure you get the terms of your compensation in writing. If it is not in writing it does not mean you are not owed, it just means it could be more difficult to prove. Also, if a dispute arises, assert yourself (politely) but don’t let too much time pass without inquiring. And any communication you have should either be in writing or followed up in writing.

If an employer tries to take away a promised bonus or commission, register your objection. Don’t be idle. If others are being cheated as well, join together. Go to meet with your employer as a pair or group. There are power in numbers and the National Labor Relations Act protects collective action as well as conduct or communications for the mutual aid and protection of employees.

If the dispute about payment is not resolved, you can call the South Carolina Department of Labor’s (DOL) Wage and Hour Division. The SC DOL may contact your employer and get to the bottom of it.

And, if all else fails, you should contact an employment lawyer. Because, you should be paid what you have earned. South Carolina Wage Payment Statute 41-10-80(c) provides that an employee may bring an action to receive three times the amount of unpaid wages and attorney fees. In the end, the law provides a remedy, but it is up to you to assert. And in the meantime, get as much of the dispute in writing as possible.

(UNCUT) Columbia, SC Deputy Armed Pig, Ben Fields, Brutally Attacks Child In School at Spring Valley – 844-292-1318 South Carolina legal aid

(Includes 3rd View at 0:14 ) Meet Ben Fields, World. On yesterday, October 26, 2015, this hulking ARMED Pig decided to brutally beat on a young Black child while she was sitting at her school desk. All because the child had, according to students in the classroom, met with the disapproval of her teacher because she had either briefly looked at her mobile phone or wouldn’t spit out her gum (Accounts vary at the time of this writing). What is clear is that this Armed pig, a 34-year-old power weight lifter whom regularly lifts upward of 600lbs. at a time, flung this little girl violently across a classroom full of horrified children, all of whom will be traumatized for the rest of their lives!!! Lt. #BenFields , who is the School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Spring Valley High School by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, is the White officer grabbing the Black student by the arm as she sits in her desk. The officer pulls on her arm, moving the desk and the girl and then grabs hold of her shoulder and neck area. He turns over the desk, throwing it and the unnamed student to the ground. He then drags this child toward the door, pulling the desk along with her and then throws her out of it before jumping on top of her and pummeling her just to handcuff the child. This child “has a cast on her BROKEN arm, she has neck and back injuries, and She has a Band-Aid on her forehead where she suffered rug burn on her forehead,” Columbia lawyer Todd Rutherford told #ABC’s Good Morning America. THEN, to add insult to trauma and injury, he arrested her and another female child, Niya Kenney, whom dared to film him and speak up against his brutality. Both were handcuffed and placed under arrest for disturbing school, and Niya was arrested for recording the incident, the sheriff’s department says…Her Family had to pay ,000.00 to get her out of jail.

This holice, whom quickly deleted his #Twitter & Facebook accounts yesterday, has a reputation amongst the children in this area going years back, even to the point of his having had done the same thing to a pregnant child (SEE Link) https://twitter.com/FakeAsian__/status/658746896656310272 These poor children even had a name for the Devil incarnate: They call him “THE INCREDIBLE HULK.”

And he has also brutalized a U.$ . #Army #Vet , going to the point of saying “GET HER BLACK ASS!!!” (referencing the Womyn with the Vet),erasing her video footage of the arrest, and commenting that he was glad #JohnnieCochran was dead when advised by the victim that he would be taken to Court over his actions. His history matches this outburst (SEE Link) http://heavy.com/news/2015/10/ben-fields-richland-county-south-carolina-sheriff-deputy-spring-valley-high-school-photo-football-coach-bodybuilder-cop-student-desk-video-complaints/

A student in the classroom Tweeted his eyewitness account of the video, saying “to be clear,” the girl was “sitting quietly at her desk,” and did not provoke the deputy before the video started. Aaron Johnson said “nobody even knew what she did,” and why he grabbed her. “When i asked mr. Long (The Teacher) if he felt bad he said the girl should have cooperated. The officer came in because she wouldn’t leave the class when the teacher told her to. I still don’t know what she did to be asked to leave. The teacher was really quiet when discussing whatever she did. Whatever she did couldn’t have been that bad because nobody knew what it was. Apparently she was chewing gum. All of this because of fucking gum. Honestly fuck the school system.” (LINK) https://twitter.com/Aaron___J/with_replies Yeah Out of the mouths of babes. Watch the video in its entirety. Todd Kohlhepp, the man arrested after a woman was found chained on his property in rural South Carolina, has been charged with multiple counts of murder.
On Sunday the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s website stated Kohlhepp faces four counts of murder and a single kidnapping charge. A bond hearing has been set.
According to Sheriff Chuck Wright, Kohlhepp confessed Saturday to being the shooter who killed four people at a motorcycle shop in 2003.
Wright said “God answered our prayers” in solving the 13-year-old cold case.
Also on Saturday, Wright says Kohlhepp also showed law enforcement officers the gravesites of two of his other victims buried on his 95-acre property near Woodruff.
That’s in addition to the body found Friday at the site. Wright and Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified that victim as 32-year-old Charles Carver. Carver is the boyfriend of the woman found in a locked metal container Thursday.
The sheriff says it’s possible more bodies will be uncovered.
