JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. The financial capital of the world is home to the cloud reaching spires of the Empire State and the Chrysler Buildings. Other famous structures known around the world include the Woolworth Building and the Twin Towers (whose destruction on September 11th 2001 is now being filled by the rising One World Trade Center). Many American cities host not only JDRF Walk, but also a JDRF Ride. Burlington is a perfect example of a ride to cure diabetes. Many people participate in the ride in order to turn type one into type none. People are extremely happy about the event. The preparations are extremely important for each rider. All the participants start at the line and do their own ride – it’s not a race, but a RIDE to cure diabetes. During the ride many people cheer and support the riders. After the ride there is always a special after party, where all the people celebrate their achievements. People are extremely happy and sure that the ultimate cure will be found. The team is amazing and the coaches support the riders. JDRF never leave their participants alone. JDRF prioritizes its funding for type 1 diabetes research in four interrelated therapeutic areas: autoimmune therapies, β-cell therapies, prevention of complications, and glucose control. Each therapeutic area encompasses a diverse portfolio of research programs that span from exploratory to preclinical proof-of-principle and on to clinical proof-of-concept research. The organization’s overarching strategy focuses on addressing critical gaps and challenges, catalyzing innovative and transformational research, advancing and translating research, creating collaborations, and accelerating time lines at all stages of research development. Excluded from this sector are aerobic classes in Subsector 713, Amusement, Gambling, and Recreation Industries and nonmedical diet and weight reducing centers in Subsector 812, Personal and Laundry Services. Although these can be viewed as health services, these services are not typically delivered by health practitioners. JDRF works towards a day when there is no more type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Diabetes – is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. When you eat your body breaks food down into glucose and sends it into the blood. Insulin then helps move the glucose from the blood into your cells. When glucose enters your cells, it is either used as fuel for energy right away or stored for later use. In a person with diabetes, there is a problem with insulin.
