Las Vegas (Oct. 12, 2012) – Nevada Women’s Philanthropy (NWP) elected to award its 0,000 2012 grant to Goodwill of Southern Nevada, Inc. to launch a Veteran Integration Program that will help veterans and their spouses find jobs in Southern Nevada. A ,000 NWP Founders Grant will be awarded to this year’s runner-up, Helping Hands of Vegas Valley and James Seastrand Helping Hands of North Las Vegas.

“Each and every year presents a challenging decision for our members to select which agency is the recipient of our grant,” NWP president Carrie Henderson said. “This year was no different. Goodwill will spend this gift wisely and we are sure it will have a lasting impact for Goodwill and the people it serves.”

Goodwill estimates that the Veterans Integration Program (VIP) will be up and running within the next 30 days. The grant will pay for the program’s start-up costs which will include hiring three full time career specialists who have military backgrounds and understand the unique challenges veterans and their spouses often face when entering or re-entering the workforce. Roughly 400 veterans will be served through this program’s initial two-year launch.

“We can’t think of a better way to honor those who served our country than to help them find work, especially in this challenging economy. Right now, roughly one out of every seven veterans in Nevada is unemployed,” said Steve Chartrand, president & CEO of Goodwill of Southern Nevada. “Helping someone find a job is truly life changing, and we are grateful to Nevada Women’s Philanthropy for providing seed funding to develop this much-needed program in our community.”
